Early Summer Check

A good day for inspection. Two colonies survived the winter, Hive 2 and Hive 4. Hive 2 very busy and increasing as expected. Drone brood in abundance as well as worker brood. No sign as yet of any queen cups/cells. Hive modified to brood and a half system. Hive 4 Queen spotted and isolated to check for any queen cells. No queen cells as yet. Loads of worker brood and to a lesser extent drone brood. Removed 3 frames of brood at various stages of development and placed these in empty Hive 5. Gave this hive loads of food in honey stores. An experiement to see if this hive can be viable by raising new queen cells from the eggs. Will re-visit this hive in a week's time. Hive modified to brood and a half system.

I was wondering where the bees in the garden were coming from. Now I know :-)
Please let me know when yo might have some honey for sale.
My uncle was a beekeeper way up north, he had access to many many acres of heather. Sadly he passed away 20 yrs ago and the new road goes over where had had many of his hives. :-(
