Mid-Spring Check 24-04-2016

Today was a good morning warm enough for an inspection. I was excited since my new side kick was keen to help as he had just taken receipt of a new bee suit complete with a set of gloves.

He could hardly wait to get started. Langstroth Hives 1 and 2 were tidied up and observed to be building up slowly. Stores are sufficient. National hive was observed on inspection to have just gone into population explosion. The brood box was absolutely congested and the queen laying profusely. A few queen cups found and destroyed so are many drone cells in the brood box. The honey Jumbo box placed a few weeks ago was now being used for honey storage (5 frames). Placed a super of 'comb honey' above the Jumbo box. Will inspect again next weekend, weather permitting.
