A General Check for A Queen

Hive 1 Looks normal. Colony seems to be doing okay despite poor weather and decreased forage. Hive 2 Not so well doing. Diminshed hive activity. Drone layer and this is difficult to tell whether the layer is an unmated queen or a worker. More likely to be a worker since the laying is in the worker cells. Hive 3 Very prolific. Brood present. Considering this was from a July swarm, the brood box is full of honey stores. Hive 4 The colony appears to be doing okay. Brood in all stages of development observed. Temperament of the bees appears good. Bees cling to the frames. Hive 5 Again the hive has a drone layer. The intriduced queen must have been killed. Did not even bother looking for her. Very disappointed. Contemplating what to do next with Hives 2 and Hive 5. There is a lot of wasp attack on the hives and I have placed some wasp traps. Already some wasps have been trapped. Wasp interference has made some bees very aggressive and defensive - (the Mrs stung by a rogue bee whilst drying her laundry).
